Scope: This policy applies to all horse owners boarding their horses at the Facility, as well as all Facility staff responsible for the care and management of boarded horses. Boarding Agreement: All horse owners must sign a Boarding Agreement outlining the terms of service, fees, and responsibilities. The Agreement must be signed prior to the arrival of any horse at the Facility. Boarding Fees: Fees cover standard services, including stall rental, basic feed, and daily turnout. Additional services are available for an extra charge. Boarding fees are due on the first day of each month. All payments not received on time are considered late. Late payments will incur a fee of 10% of the monthly boarding rate. Veterinary Care: Horse owners must provide proof of current health prior to boarding. Owners are responsible for regular veterinary care, including vaccinations, deworming, and dental work. Records must be kept up to date and shared with the Facility. In case of an emergency, the Facility will contact the owner’s designated veterinarian. If the owner cannot be reached, the Facility may authorize emergency care at the owner's expense. Emergency Contact: All horse owners must provide an additional emergency contact in case they are unreachable during an emergency. Farrier Services: Horses must be kept on a regular farrier schedule. Owners can use their own farrier or the Facility’s recommended farrier. Owners must notify the Facility of scheduled farrier visits. Feed and Nutrition: The Facility provides standard feed and hay. Any special dietary requirements must be supplied by the owner. Owners must notify the Facility of any dietary changes or supplements. Turnout and Exercise: Horses will be turned every other day in designated areas. Turnout schedules are managed by the Facility. Stable and Stall Maintenance: The Facility will maintain clean stalls and provide fresh bedding regularly. Owners must keep the areas around their horse’s stall tidy and free of personal items. This includes wearing appropriate attire and following safety procedures when handling horses. Access and Hours: The Facility is open to boarders at regular business hours. Please verify with the management due to seasonal changes. Visitors: Visitors must follow all Facility rules and are only allowed in designated areas. Visitors must be accompanied by the owner or Facility staff. Liability Waiver: At the time of booking boarding and any other services at the Facility, all horse owners acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to the waiver releasing the Facility, its owners, and staff from any claims arising out of boarding services. Non-Payment Consequences: If boarding fees are not paid for three (3) consecutive months, Reef AlHijaz reserves the right to take ownership of the horse by the common law of the Kingdom. The horse will become the property of Reef AlHijaz, and the owner forfeits all rights to the horse. Prior to taking ownership, Reef AlHijaz will make multiple attempts to contact the owner to resolve the payment issue. • Do I need to have my own helmet?
It is best to have your own helmet for horseback riding. If you do not currently have a helmet, we will provide one free of charge for the duration of your ride or lesson. For hygiene purposes, we also provide a hair net that must be worn under all helmets we provide. After the ride, please return our helmet to the tack room. Bringing your own helmet ensures a perfect fit and personal comfort. However, if you choose to use one of our helmets, rest assured that they are ASTM/SEI-certified and regularly cleaned and inspected for safety. For any questions regarding helmet use, feel free to contact us directly.
  • Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the riding class?
To prepare for your class at Reef AlHijaz, here are a few things to consider: Attire: Wear appropriate riding attire, including an ASTM/SEI-certified horseback riding helmet, boots with a heel, and long pants such as jodhpurs or breeches. Safety Gear: If you have your own riding helmet, vest, and gloves, feel free to bring them. We provide helmets only, in case you do not have or forgot to bring your own. Arrival: Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled class time to check in, meet your instructor, and get acquainted with your assigned horse. Hydration and Comfort: Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during your lesson. Dress in layers to adjust for the weather and ensure your comfort throughout the session. Paperwork: If you are a first-time visitor, ensure that you have completed any necessary paperwork, such as waivers or registration forms, which can typically be found on our website or filled out on-site. By preparing in advance, you'll have a smooth and enjoyable experience during your riding class at Reef AlHijaz.
  • What do color-coded lessons mean?
At Reef AlHijaz, our color-coded system for riding classes not only delineates different levels of proficiency but also incorporates a structured progression and assessment process: GREEN Level (Beginners): This level introduces new riders to foundational skills such as saddling, leading, mounting, and basic commands like walking, trotting, and beginning canter. Riders build confidence and foundational techniques under the guidance of our experienced instructors. ORANGE Level (Intermediate): Advancing from the GREEN level, riders at the ORANGE level refine their skills with exercises like trotting without stirrups, mastering balanced riding techniques in canter through figure eights and circles, and learning lead changes. This level emphasizes precision and control in riding. RED Level (Advanced): At the RED level, riders fine-tune their abilities with more complex exercises to enhance their coordination, timing, and finesse. This prepares them for specialized disciplines such as show jumping and endurance riding, including trail rides in desert environments. Upon completion of each level, riders undergo a comprehensive assessment. This includes a test session where a checklist of skills is evaluated to ensure mastery before progressing to the next level. This structured approach ensures that riders not only progress effectively but also build a solid foundation of equestrian skills at Reef AlHijaz. Our instructors are dedicated to providing personalized guidance and support, fostering a safe and enriching environment where riders can thrive in their equestrian journey.
  • What should I wear to ride?
For your safety and comfort while riding at Reef AlHijaz, we recommend the following attire: Helmet: Wear an ASTM/SEI-certified horseback riding helmet. If you do not have one, we can provide one free of charge for the duration of your ride or lesson. Boots: Wear boots with a heel to prevent your feet from slipping through the stirrups. Avoid sneakers or flat-soled shoes. Pants: Wear long pants such as jodhpurs or breeches to prevent chafing and provide proper leg protection. Safety Vest: Consider wearing a safety vest, especially if you are a beginner or participating in jumping or other high-risk activities. Safety vests provide additional protection for your torso. Gloves: Riding gloves are optional but can help protect your hands and provide a better grip on the reins. Tops: Wear fitted tops to avoid loose or baggy clothing that could get caught in equipment. Layers are advisable to adjust for comfort based on the weather. By dressing appropriately, you ensure a safer and more enjoyable riding experience.
  • May I use my bike helmet?
NO, a bike helmet is not suitable for horseback riding. Horseback riding helmets are specifically designed to provide protection for equestrian activities and meet ASTM/SEI safety standards. They offer protection for areas of the head that are more vulnerable during falls or impacts specific to riding. We highly recommend using an ASTM/SEI-certified horseback riding helmet to ensure your safety. If you do not have one, we will provide a riding helmet free of charge for the duration of your ride or lesson.
